Would this solve the high cost of health care in the USA?
Have big pharm companies sell medicines as cheap as over the counter medicines to Americans but sell them at grossly over inflated rates to EU members, and Canadians. Americans can save money and Europeans and Canadians can pick up the tab with their mandated health care. Everyone wins and no one loses.

You forgot a Fornication Tax
To do that the government would have to put regulations on pharmaceuticals, and that subject is taboo - both for pricing control and government control. Pharmaceuticals pay big bucks every year for lobbyists to go to Washington and fight for them to get away with what they're doing, while the seniors and the poor have to make difficult choices such as buying medication or eating or paying their utility bills. But something definitely has to be done because too many people are going without one thing or another because of greed.
Pharmaceutical equipment is very expensive.Prosthetics, and Orthotics can run a proprietary business a small fortune.
the best method of dwindling rising health care costs is to create more competition. Getting the government involved is not a logical or practical method of doing so.
... the big problem is... drug companies wouldn't do it... EU isn't going to pay, and they wouldn't use nearly as much as the US anyway...
the drug companies aren't going to just lose billions out of the kindness of their hearts...
Right, because Europe and Canada will just sit back and let us play economic terrorism with otheir health-care.
They will not start making the drugs themselves, No way.
Any time Governments try to control markets, the markets find a way around it.
Having previously worked as a medical biller. The high cost of healthcare comes from for profit insurance costs. (both health and malpractice insurance companies)
I say break big pharm's stranglehold on American politics. How come France and Canada get new medicines that can cure cancer but in the USA they are blacklisted?
We value that clever people can make fortunes at the expense of less clever ones. Until that value changes, nothing will change.
it would be the best to stop subsidizing insurance companies and stop making health care a part of employment
You cannot tell pharmaceutical companies what to charge for their products.
Why would the Canadians and British allow that to happen?
Well, since government can't get involved with American free enterprise, no.
No, get the gvt out of the way
