Make a difference? Yes. Can you do it? Depends on the motherboard. Is it worth it? Maybe depending on what ram that motherboard uses. A quick search at newegg resulted in finding ram that could cost anywhere from $32 to $106, for 2 512MB sticks, depending on what you need. At $32, I do not know, maybe. At $106 not on your life. Maybe you can find some on craigslist. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
Laptops aren't exactly built to last 12 years. By now, I can only imagine the internal components of your laptop have degraded to such a degree that making upgrades (if that is even possible) would not help the performance very much.
Even the cheapest laptop you can find today on the market will probably outperform your laptop. Not to mention if you're trying to run today's programs and operating systems on it, 256Megabytes will hardly make a difference.
Hi
i would consider this if the laptop was used for some specified purpose but a 12 year old is frankly a bit old to be spending anything on really unless you have the memory as this tends to be expensive.
and a 12 year old computer is not really of much use on the INTERNET. it would be very slow.
so it is a question of do you really consider it worth the expenditure.
First - you really need to check that the motherboard was designed to handle 2 x 512MB - it could already be maxed out on your current 2 x 256MB
Theoretically, you should notice a slight increase in speed (more background processing can be done in memory, as opposed to paging data to hard-disk) - though, not enough in my opinion to justify the spend on an old laptop.
For the price no it would not. DDR ram generally runs 40-60$. Two sticks are going to cost you close to 100$ and thats without any installation fees. 100$ to make a old piece of **** polished or 300$ to buy a brand new laptop -_^ you make the call.
Hi from France ♫
Oh yes for sure ! You double the power.. Tell me, what is the brand of this Laptop ? I ask this because it's pretty rare on laptop that '' lives '' so long !
I'm about to buy one, but I really don't know which brand to choose...
Have a nice day

An increase in RAM increases speed however you would first have to check your computer is capable of the RAM card your fitting in. On a computer thats 12 years old the differences of a increase in RAM is more likely to be minor due to the processor being old.
It depends on the motherboard. Older motherboards may not support thay much RAM. You will need to research the type of motherboard the laptop has to see if it is capable of utilizing a larger amount of RAM.
It would make a difference. You would expand your RAM memory.
Yes it will make, your laptop can run more programs than it was with the 256MB,
of course it will be more faster if the laptop is working properly.
you will only get a 256mb memory extra.....but if you satisfied for this, it does not matter )..do it
yip, double your ram and you will perform tasks at double speed up to a point
